New Ways to Blush

New Ways to Blush

What’s so complicated about blush? Just slap it on and you’re done, right? Not according to the April edition of Glamour. Below are some tips to shake up your old blush routine.

Swipe it on your lips. Whaaat? That’s crazy talk! But according to Monika Blunder –who happens to do makeup for a certain femme fatale named Megan Fox – she says applying rosy cream blush onto your mouth gives lips a very natural effect, like a stain. Exfoliate lips with a wet toothbrush or washcloth, layer on lip balm then blot, and apply blush with your finger.

Pair it with bold lipstick. To keep from overdoing it, put on lipstick first, then apply blush. Go easy on the eye makeup, and you’re good to go!

Do “C” motion. Sweep sheer blush over your cheeks and up toward eyebrows in a big “C” to add luminosity. Choose a subtle color with just a smidge of sparkle. You don’t want to be Disco Ball Girl.

Go bright. Bright color on cheeks wakes up your entire face. Don’t shy away from bright color – test it out on your skin and you’ll be surprised at how different it looks from the packaging. It will make you look like you got your full 8 hours – even if you stayed up too late watching Seinfeld reruns.

Do the dew. Blunder advises in order to give yourself a dewy-not greasy- glow, mix a little moisturizer with cream blush and apply it with a fan brush. Hydrated skin = sexy, dewy skin.

Glamour recommends:

Nars Blush in Orgasm, $27 – a sexy (obviously) coral-pink that is a cult favorite.

Bobbi Brown Blush in Pale Pink, $24 – a girly rose.

Three Custom Color Specialists Lip & Cheek Stain in Caramel Rose, $23 – a warm berry.

My personal faves:

bareMinerals powder blush in Haute Pink, $18 – crazy bright in the packaging but perfect in the morning after a long night!

Avon mark shimmer tubes hook up blush in Peach Pearl (which is discontinued of course, but you can still find it on ebay and Amazon.)

NYC New York Color Blushable Creme Stick, $3.99 – the cream stick allows you to make it as subtle or as bright as you want.

Blush away, ladies!
